 All 5th Aurora Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their immediate families are invited to attend our annual end of the year celebration.  Enjoy the great BBQ food and campfire with other 5th Aurora families, and register for next year.

Cost:  $5.00/person or $15.00/family.  Bring lawn chairs.

Youth moving to the next section will participate in a small ceremony at the BBQ.

There will be an opportunity to pre-register for the fall.

Night Safari.  Go wild with the animals! As the sun begins to set, meet some amazing creatures up-close, from massive pythons and cute leopards, to the ferocious Vietnamese centipede and the comical river otters. Then warily, in the mystery of darkness, explore the zoo when it’s most active. Watch the nocturnal animals stalk, jump, and pounce, as we feed them an evening meal...always cautious of what may lurk in the shadows.

Jungle Cat World is home to a variety of threatened and endangered species such as lemurs, gibbons, cotton-top tamarins and spider monkeys.  The park specializes in wild felines. They include the world's largest, the Siberian tiger, to the rarest, the Amur leopard, to some of the smallest like the sand cats from the African deserts.

Pizza and drinks will be provided after arrival at the camp by Jungle Cat World.  Breakfast will be provided by the group.

The Kub Kar Regional Finals will be held on Saturday, March 25th at the Aurora Legion.  The Kars that race in this event will be those who finished in the top half of the races held on March 3rd.

The Town of Aurora will be having its races on Saturday, March 3,  2012 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 32 Mosley Street (1 block east of Yonge, 1 block south of Wellington) .  In the morning we will race against our pack.  Our race time is 11:40 am.  Please be at the church 15 minutes before race time. The top half cars will go to the semi-finals in the afternoon (around 1 p.m.) and race against other packs in Aurora.  The top half of the cars that race in the afternoon will go to the finals.

Food will be available but I ask that Cubs do not eat or drink during our races.

We will be celebrating our founder's birthday and having the first of our kub kar races in the gym so we can fine tune the kars.

Join the group for an hour of fun at the Richmond Hill Wave Pool.  This event is just for members of 5th Aurora and their parents and siblings.

Time:  7 - 8 p.m. and enjoy a snack and a drink.

OPERATION SNOWMAN

For those cubs who did not work on their cars over the holiday, paint will be provided.  Baloo will bring the saw for those who missed out on the cutting in December.

Don't worry Akela has all the wheels and axles!

Can you survive a plane crash in the winter?  We will be camping in Maplewood Lodge at Woodland Trails.  Space is limited to 30 beds and 2 are already spoken for as the cooks need to sleep.  If the camp is popular we will ask parents to participate but not stay over.

We are making our bird feeders and designing our Kub Kars tonight and would appreciate parental help. 

We are marching in the Aurora Santa Claus parade.  Participation in the parade counts towards a requirement for the hiking badge.  The parade route is approximately 3 kms.  We will meet at St. Andrew's plaza by no later than 5:15.  Please look for the Scouting flags.  At tthe end of the parade all parade participants need to check in with the leaders before departure to ensure that all youth have been accounted for.

In support of our Sponsor, The Royal Canadian Legion, all 5th Aurora Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts are invited, and encouraged, to participate in the Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony on Sunday November 7th.

We will all meet at the Canadian Law Book Society parking lot, on Edward Street, by no later than 10:30am and then parade to the Cenotaph for the 11:00am ceremony. 5th Aurora will present a wreath, and will also be distributing programs to the crowd.

Please wear full uniform including navy pants and dark shoes/boots.

It's the 5th anniversary of the Haunted Forest and the 5th Aurora Cubs will be participating in the Haunted Forest event at Sheppard's Bush.  We are looking for ideas for displays along the path in the forest.  Remember the displays cannot require electricity.

Apple Day is a fun, major fundraiser for our scouting group. Our youth offer people in our community apples and accept donations, which benefit our group directly.

WHEN?
Thursday, October 13, 2011 – 6:00 to 8:00p.m.
Friday, October 14, 2011 – 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 15, 2011 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE? Youth meet at our headquarters at the Staples store in the Aurora Shopping Plaza, Murray St. & Yonge St., Aurora. You can do this during any of the times stated above. If your child is excited to participate, you can even come more than once!
HOW? Your child can load up on apples, a money tin and thank you tags, and then be assigned a location to distribute apples. Money tins must be returned to our "headquarters" and children will then receive an Apple Day crest for their efforts.
REMEMBER:
• To bring a fruit basket to hold your apples and a polishing rag.
• All our youth and leaders must be in full uniform. We are representing our group to the community and want to look our best.
• Please dress for the weather.
• Remind our scouts to use their best manners and to stay clear from storefront doors. VOLUNTEERS: are needed  to help operate "headquarters"at Staples. This is a longstanding Scouting tradition that is a lot of fun.  Let’s help keep the Scouting spirit alive!

All new Cubs will be officially welcomed into the Pack and will receive their scarf, woggle and epaulets.  Parents are welcome to attend, participate and take pictures.  Small snacks would be appreciated.  If your son was a Beaver last year we would appreciate the return on the Beaver scarf.

Aliens, space invaders and UFO's have landed at Camp Samac and it is our job to collect information about these non-human lifeforms!  We need all Beavers, Cubs and Scout to come to camp on September 30 to October 2. to assist in the collection. 

Camp Samac is located in the north end of Oshawa and there are only 80 spots available for sleeping indoors; Scouts will be in tents around the lodge.

Our founder, Lord Baden Powell's birthday is February 22.  On our meeting night we will celebrate all the wonderful things BP did for Scouting and eat cake!

All 5^th Aurora Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts, and their families (siblings and parents – sorry, no friends) are invited to the 5^th Aurora Family Beach Party at the Richmond Hill Wave Pool. Enjoy one metre waves, the 50 metre twisting water slide, and the “swirl”pool from 7-8  pm on Saturday, February 19th, and leave with a drink and snack.

The pool will have a full compliment of lifeguards, but children up to 8 must be under the supervision of an adult (adult must swim, and be within reach of the child). Adults must also be in swim suit to be on the pool deck.

Due to our successful Popcorn fundraising efforts during the fall, there is NO charge for this event.

Please complete the form distrubuted at your meeting (even if you CAN'T attend) so we can provide numbers to the pool staff.

As part of the Blue Star, each Cub needs to do a chore at home for a month.  Please have a parent sign off when this requirement is completed.

Also, each Cub needs to prepare an emergency escape plan for their home.  Draw the floor plan and mark the escape route, then try and escape, perhaps blindfolded so you are aware of how long is the hallway and how many steps there are.  This could be a fun activity for the entire family.

Snow, Snow, Snow.

Let's enjoy the snow and go tobogganing at Machell Park.  Bring your GT Racer, toboggan, snow carpet, cardboard or whatever.  If you make it down the hill and onto the skating rink there will be an award of 50 gizzles!

Akela will provide hot chocolate.

Come discover life in the 18th century as you spend a day in the life of a soldier.  Eat their meals, play their games and sleep in the barracks.  This is a one night sleep over camp.

The cost to participate is $43 for youth and $9 for adults.  Space is limited to 40 spots so get your form in early.

Oh no, something has happened and we need everyone's help to solve the mystery!  Come and participate in first All Section Camp - Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers at Camp Everton just outside Acton for a fun filled weekend.  Spend the weekend solving the mystery while sleeping in a former barn (no four legged animals have been in the barn for a great many years!).  Space is limited so decide quickly if you want to be a detective!

Wow the Cub group is really large this year.  Welcome back to all returning Cubs!  We have quite a few new Cubs - some coming from Beavers and some simply joining the program.  It will take a couple of weeks to get organized so parents please bear with the confusion.

Camp is coming up at the beginning of October so get your commitment in soon so the leaders can plan.  This camp will need parent volunteers to help deliver the mystery theme.  If you are interested in helping out please speak to Bagheera (Tracy) or Akela (Terri).

Investiture will be the Wednesday after Thanksgiving so all members will be full members of the group by Apple Day. 

What's Apple Day - its a fundraiser for Scouting.  Our own Greywolf (Edna) is the coordinator.  We ask that every member of Cubs try and volunteer at least an hour of their time each day on Thursday evening, Friday evening , Saturday or some time on Sunday.  There will be a sign up sheet available shortly.

On Saturday October 23 the 5th Aurora Scouting group will be "haunting" Sheppard's Bush in association with the Town of Aurora.  This is another fundraiser for the group.  We will need to create some displays - scary and not so scary.  We could also use some help to man the displays so they can be interactive rather than static.  If any parent is willing to help out or has an idea please speak to Akela (Terri), Baloo (Wayne) or Bagheera (Tracy).

The leaders will attempt to keep the website as up to date as possible so please check back frequently.

Registration for Cubs will take place on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion on Industrial Parkway North (rear door).  The cost to register for the 2010-2011 season will be $190.00 plus the cost of uniform and dues of $1 per week.

CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF SCOUTING IN CANADA

From Sunday, July 25^th to Saturday, July 30th , 2010 there will be a weeklong (6- night) Cub camp, in tents and with catered meals at Everton Scout Camp, near Acton, Ontario.

Come to the Movies is the theme for this year's Cuboree at KOA Campgrounds at Highway 89 and 400.  We will be sleeping in tents and sharing space with the Beavers who will be having their own Beaveree event at the same time.

Cost for the weekend if $40.00.  Flyer is attached.

We're going bowling and will have our gizzle auction at the bowling alley in Aurora.  Further information will follow at this week's meeting.

This will be our last night to test the speed of the Kars before the big race on Saturday.

SPRING OLYMPIC CAMP

April 18, 19, 20 @ Woodland TrailsCome and participate in the first ever 5^th Aurora Olympics in celebration of the Olympic Year! Beavers and Cubs will be divided into countries and will participate in active games on Saturday. There will be an Olympic style opening and closing and medal presentations. Space is limited so act quickly. Parents are welcome.

We will be investigating other cultures as part of the Purple Star.

We will be having our first gizzle auction.

Police station visit on Bagheera's bus.  Meet at the school at 6:30 sharp as we must leave by 6:45.  We are going to the station near Keele and Rutherford Road.

Please let Akela or Bagheera know if a Cub is attending the field trip but not taking the bus.

Bring your Kars to the meeting so we can finish, weigh and give tires ready for racing!

Space is limited to 24 people, including leaders and parents so get your reservation in soon if you want to earn Canadian Heritage Trails,  Canadian Wilderness and Naturalist badge.  The program will offer two badge activities on Saturday and one badge activity on Sunday.

The theme for this years camp is Great Inventors..

We will be staying in the Gordon Memorial lodge which sleeps 44 Space may be limited so it is best to reserve early.
The cost of the camp is
$50 for Cubs and

This includes all Food (snack friday , Breakfast Lunch,Dinner and snacks on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday)and camp materials.
Parents are encouraged to attend but if you can not it is acceptable to find another parent to take responsiblity for your son.
Fun will be had by all.  We will work towards your red and tawney stars.

The Commissioner of Scouts in Canada has asked that every Beaver, Cub, Scout, Venturer and Rover section consider donating a week's worth of dues to the relief efforts in Haiti.  Pack B will participate.  Our weekly dues total $29.  If there are Cubs or leaders that would like to donate more, the Leaders will add any donations to the fund.

Attached is the letter received from the Commissioner of Scouts.

The Commissioner of Scouting in Canada has asked that each Beaver, Cub, Scout, Venturer and Rover section consider donating a week's worth of dues to this cause.  Pack B will be participating.  Our week dues amount to $29.  If Cubs or Leaders would like to donate more, the leaders will include all donations.

On May 9th the Pack will be going to In Play on Leslie, just south of Green Lane in Newmarket for our closing party.  Cubs will have the opportunity to use the climbing wall, play mini golf or just enjoy the playground.  Pizza will be served.  As the establishment closes at 8 p.m. we ask that the Cubs come to In Play by 6:30 p.m.  Dues and the popcorn fundraising are paying for this event.  We ask that Cubs and parents confirm their attendance so we have an idea as to numbers.
